How do I know if I have Athlete's Foot?
If you've got an itch that needs scratching, then chances are you have Athlete's Foot. Other early symptoms of Athlete's Foot may include inflammation or reddening of the foot. However, symptoms can vary depending on the severity of your Athlete's Foot infection.
There are the three known types of infections that cause Athlete's Foot:
- Interdigital infection is the most common and usually occurs between the fourth and fifth toes. The skin becomes scaly, cracked and peeling. Some people also may have an infection with bacteria which can make the skin break down even further.
- Moccasin-type infection may start with a little soreness on your foot. With the skin on the bottom or heel of your foot becoming thick and cracking. In severe cases the toenails can get infected causing them to thicken, crumble and even fall out. A fungal infection in toenails will require separate treatment.
- Vesicular infection usually begins with a sudden outbreak of large fluid-filled blisters under the skin which are present on the bottom of the foot. But they can appear anywhere on your feet and can also lead to a bacterial infection.
If you are experiencing any or all of these symptoms, then head down to your local pharmacy for help. Early treatment is important, as if left untreated - athlete's foot can stick around and spread to other parts of the body.
