Treating Thrush

Treating thrush can be much easier than talking about it. A range of treatment options are available to best suit your individual needs and help you get rid of thrush.

Thrush treatments are available over the counter in pharmacies, following consultation with a pharmacist. During this short consultation, the pharmacist will ask you a few questions. This is standard procedure and is to ensure they give you the right treatment.

These questions include:

  • Are you under 18 or over 60 years of age?
  • Have you ever had thrush before?
  • Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
  • What are your symptoms?

Oral Treatments

An oral only treatment provides an effective, single-dose ‘hands-off’ approach to treat the infection. Oral treatments contain fluconazole which is not suitable during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding.

Canesoral Oral Capsule

A convenient solution for the treatment of vaginal thrush. Contains a single dose oral capsule to treat the source of the infection.

Canesoral Duo

A convenient solution for the treatment and relief of vaginal thrush. Contains a single dose oral capsule to treat the source of infection plus a cream to immediately soothe the external symptoms.

Cream Treatments

Creams need to be applied internally into the vagina with an easy to use applicator. Even though an external itch is very common, you must not apply Canesten cream solely to your external skin as the infection is inside the vagina.

The internal cream option may be preferred by women who also have vaginal dryness. Based on consumer preference, some creams are a single application while others are inserted over several days to treat thrush.
