Rest assured, ringworm has nothing to do with worms of any kind.
Ringworm is a common fungal infection that can appear on either the skin or scalp. It is caused by a fungi called ‘dermatophytes’ and can be passed on through person to person contact as well as contact with infected animals, usually pets or farm animals.
Common Ringworm Symptoms:
- Itchy inflamed red or pink circular patches that may be pustular
- The rash slowly becomes ring-shaped within a red-coloured, raised border and a clearer centre
- The border of the rash can look scaly
